PREFLOP: Hutchinson's system

One of my friends has just started Texas Hold'em, in fact he has only realized what are D, SB, BB, how to make a combination of 5 cards out of 7 cards. As any other beginner he has a problem which hands to play from which position. I've recalled that, when I was beginning  i used one card scoring system. Here it is for him and for anyone who might need it.

E. R. Hutchinson made this system and works as follows:

Each card in hand gets a score:

• Ace 16 points
• King 14 points
• Queen 13 points
• Jack 12 points
• Ten 11 points
• Nine 9 points
• Eight 8 points
• Seven 7 points
• Six 6 points
• Five 5 points
• Four 4 points
• Three 3 points
• Deuce 2 points

Additionally, if that two cards are:

• a pair then you add 10 points more
• suited then you add  4 points more
• connected (i. e. 8 & 9, or Q & J) then you add 3 points more
• 1-gappers (i. e. 7 & 9, or K & J) then you add 2 points more
• 2-gappers (i. e. 5 & 8, or A & J) then you add 1 point more

When you make a sum of all these scores you can play your hand if these conditions are fulfilled:

	Not raised, call with (raise with)	Raised, call with
Late	25 - 28 (29 +)	29+
Middle	27 - 30 (31 +)	31+
Early	30 - 33 (34 +)	34+

Example 1:

We have in hand AA. The first A has a value of 16 points + 16 points for the second A. They are a pair and that brings 10 more points. So, AA has a value of 16+16+10= 42 points. Therefore, AA can be played from any position in any way.

Example 2:

We have Qheart Jheart.
Q = 13
J = 12
suited (heart) = 4
connected = 3
============

QJs has a value of 13+12+4+3 = 32 points. So,  with QJs  you cannot call the raise if we are in the early position, neither raise unopened pot from the early position, but we can call unopened pot from any position.

Example 3:

We have a T7s in the late position. None raised in front of us. Should we FOLD, CALL or RAISE?

Let's calculate value of T7s:
T = 11
7 = 7
suited = 4
2-gapper (8 i 9) = 1
=========
T7s has a value 11+7+4+1 = 23 points

Let's answer the question. We can see for the late position that none has raised, we can call with  at least  25 points, and we can raise with 29 points. So, the correct answer is FOLD because T7s  has a value of  insufficient 23 points.
